How do Diamonds cut?

Although called blades, they don't really cut at all; they grind. As the diamonds grind through the material, the metal is worn away. This exposes new, embedded diamonds, which continue to grind away more material. For this cycle to work properly, the metal matrix must be matched to the material being cut.
